Miles Ahead: Columbia Titles
The Miles Ahead database contains entries for most of Miles Davis's Columbia
recordings. Select a record from the drop-down list below, then press the
"Details" button -- this will return a table of Columbia issues, reissues,
equivalents, etc. Please note that I use the word "equivalent" a little
loosely, to include issues with substantial common material as well as issues
with exactly the same titles. If you prefer this information on a single page,
see the table elsewhere on this site.

I've included the original monaural LPs (CL series); original stereo reissues
(CS series); one or two subsequent reissues (e.g. the PC series in the
mid-1970s); and the most recent LP reissues (CJ series: some of these are based
on digital masters).
I've also included CBS/Sony Japanese catalog numbers. These are beautifully
produced (both sonically and graphically), but unfortunately out of print. I
know of no plans to reissue them.
The listing for Japanese CDs includes several series. In the case of most
titles, there are at least three issued CD versions. The original CDs (32DP
series) were issued in the early 1980s; the CSCS series in the mid-80s reissued
most of these recordings; the SRCS 5000 series in the late 1980s reissued most
of them again (including several not reissued in the CSCS series). Sony Japan
has reissued most of the Davis catalog in two "Mastersound" series: SRCS 91xx
(20-bit SBM masters), and SRCS 97xx (one-bit DSD masters). In addition, Sony is
reissuing most of these recordings as Super Audio CDs (SRGS- series).
