McDonaldization is the standardization of society. It is beneficial to society because it makes life easier. Because of McDonaldization, people do not have to spend as much time on making their own food, doing their taxes, or travel. It is now easier for people to find a business that they consider reliable because all the chains are the same. This leaves more time to enjoy the other things in life. The bad thing about McDonaldization is that people visit independent restaurants and stores to get the authentic feel. They are impressed by fruit stands in small towns, when that used to be the norm. Work is boring and the cities are monochromatic. Day after day, it is the same schedule. Life has become long grueling workdays and lack of satisfaction out of everyday chores. The unique, authentic, fun things in life are left for the weekends, or the two-week vacations. The fun in life has been postponed.
