1 Freddie Freeloader (take 1 (inc)) (M. Davis) 0:56

Irving Townsend: "The machine's on. Here we go. CO 62290, no title, take one..." Davis: "Him, me, him, and you. Hey Wynton, after Cannonball, you play again and then we'll come in and end it..." False start (0:08). Davis: "It was too fast." Townsend: "Miles, where are you gonna work now?" Davis: "Right here." Townsend: "OK, 'cause if you move back we don't get you. You were right when you played before..." Davis: "When I play it I'm gonna raise my horn a little bit... Can I move this down a little bit?" Townsend: "It's against policy to move a microphone..." (Laughter)
2 Freddie Freeloader (take 2 (inc)) (M. Davis) 1:03

"Here we go. Ready? Number two..." Breakdown at 0:51. Davis and Coltrane rehearse
3 Freddie Freeloader (take 3 (inc)) (M. Davis) 1:37

"Take three..." Breakdown at 1:21. Davis to Kelly: "Hey look, Wynton, you don't play no chord goin' in to A-flat..." Another false start (0:04)
4 Freddie Freeloader (take 4) (M. Davis) 9:56

At the end Townsend asks, "Yeah... You wanna hear it, Miles?"
5 Freddie Freeloader (piano solo insert) (M. Davis) 1:32

"Here we go, this is insert one, take one..." Someone (Chambers?) says, "last four bars..." False start (0:02). Davis: "No, no, wait a minute -- it's the last twelve bars..." At the end Davis asks, "All right?" Townsend: "Yeah." Davis: "Let's hear a little bit of it." Townsend: "Right..."
6 So What (take 1 (fs + inc)) (M. Davis) 2:11

Townsend: "Here we go." Davis: "Wait a minute!" Townsend: "CO 62291, number two, take one..." Davis: "Wait one minute..." Adderley (?): "One short second..." Unknown: "Gimme a D, Bill..." Unknown: "OK." Evans and Chambers tune up; Chambers sings the bass line. Townsend: "Number two, take one..." False start (0:04). Townsend: "Start again, please..." Incomplete take (0:49), Townsend interrupts: "Hold it. Sorry... Listen, we gotta watch it because it, the, ah, there's noises all the way through this. This is so quiet to begin with, and every click... Watch the snare too, we're pickin' up some of the vibrations on it..." Davis: "Well that goes with it. All that goes with it." Townsend: "All right. Not, not, not all the other noises, though..."
7 So What (take 2 (fs + inc)) (M. Davis) 1:43

Townsend: "Take two..." False start (0:17), then incomplete take (1:11). Davis interrupts: "Start again..." Adderley: "When the horns..."
8 So What (take 3) (M. Davis) 10:29

Townsend (phone ringing in the booth): "Here we go, Miles; take three..." Three false starts (0:16, 0:07, 0:15). Davis: "Take it off..." Complete take (9:35) ends with Adderley singing "with a song in my heart..." and Chambers singing the closing bar of the bass line. Davis: "How's that, Irving?" Faded slowly on CK 64935; more quickly on most other versions
9 Studio chatter 0:17

Townsend: "Just you four guys on this, right Miles?" Davis: "Five..." Chambers tuning. "No, why don't you play?"
10 Blue in Green (take 1 (inc)) (M. Davis-B. Evans) 0:43

Townsend: "CO 62292, number three, take one..." Incomplete take (0:22). Evans: "We better do that again... Start on the last four bars?" Davis: "Last four bars, but you repeat it." Evans: "Oh, do it twice?" Davis: "Yeah, so it's eight..."
11 Blue in Green (take 2 (inc)) (M. Davis-B. Evans) 0:58

Townsend: "Take two..." Incomplete take (0:43). Davis: "Use both hands, Jimmy... Just use both hands and play it the best way you can, you know? It'll be all right."
12 Blue in Green (take 3 (inc)) (M. Davis-B. Evans) 3:27

Townsend: "OK? Number three..." False start (0:23). Davis: "Try it again, Billy. One, two, three, four..." Evans: "We just do that four?" They play (2:46), and at the breakdown Davis says, "That's the idea, Irving." Evans: "He stays the same as me..."
13 Blue in Green (take 4 (fs)) (M. Davis-B. Evans) 0:34

Townsend: "Take four..." False start (0:08). Townsend: "Sorry guys. It was our fault..." Davis: "No it isn't. No, I don't believe that." Townsend: "What'd you say?" Davis: "I don't believe that." Townsend: "It was a little static up here...."
14 Blue in Green (take 5) (M. Davis-B. Evans) 5:51

"Go ahead..." At the end Townsend says, "Beautiful... beautiful." Davis: "Wake up, Paul."

Adderley is out on all takes of "Blue in Green."

One of the three-track machines at this session ran slightly slow; since the original album was mixed from this tape, the issued masters were slightly sharp. This was first corrected for the gold Master Sound CD issue (CK 52861).

All of the items above are included on The Making of Kind of Blue (Kind of Blue KOB-001), Another Tracks of Kind of Blue (Core Collections CC-001), and The Sessions of Blue (Mega Disc Legendary 1959).
