These are the first Parker studio session following the August 1942-November 1944 recording ban, and his first small group studio recordings. Grimes sings on "I'll Always Love You Just the Same"; Grimes and Butts sing on "Romance without Finance." These novelty tracks were released as the A sides of the original 78s, with the instrumentals on the B sides. Parker's contributions to the these silly tunes -- especially his three-chorus solo on take 3 of "Tiny's Tempo" and his playing on the harmonically-challenging "Red Cross" -- give us a glimpse of what is to come.
