During several of his solos Shorter plays with the theme to his composition "Super Nova," which was recorded for Blue Note on August 23 with John McLaughlin, Miroslav Vitous, and Airto Moriera joining Shorter, Corea, and De Johnette.

The Quintet performed twice at the Juan-les-Pins Festival, July 25 and 26, and both shows were recorded by ORTF for broadcast. Much of this concert was used, with voiceover commentary, in an installment of André Francis' Jazz sur Scène show (item #101D35619 in the RTF/INA archives).

Immediately after the July 26 performance the Quintet returned to the U.S. and resumed its busy touring schedule: Rutgers University Stadium, New Brunswick (Rutgers Jazz Festival) (July 27); Sheraton Park Hotel, French Lick (French Lick Jazz Festival) (July 31); Spectrum, Philadelphia (August 15); Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis (St. Louis Jazz Festival) (August 16); Grant Park Auditorium Theatre, Chicago (August 22); Crosley Field, Cincinnati (Ohio Jazz Festival) (August 23); Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis (Memphis Jazz Festival) (August 24); Shelly's Manne-Hole, Los Angeles (September 9-21).

Jazz Door 1294 wrongly identifies the location as Montreux.
