Davis toys with the theme of "Funk" (aka "Prelude, Part 1") throughout "Right Off." It was evolving from "Right Off" during this period. It followed "Right Off" in many concerts from late 1973 to early 1974; by May 1974 it appears by itself, and was is a standard set-opener from late 1974 through the summer of 1975. "Untitled Original 730424c" is labeled as such to identify the date on which it is first documented. In the mid-1970s there are several tunes that are performed live but never brought into the studio, and several tunes recorded during studio sessions but never considered for release. In both cases the tunes were never given titles.

There are two different Nippon Broadcasting Co. TV presentations of this music. The first contains no interruptions and includes "Turnaroundphrase" (missing the first two beats, 12:55), "Tune in 5" (10:02), and "Right Off" (inc, 9:03). The second contains an introduction (0:49), "Turnaroundphrase" (12:58), the first 2:33 of "Tune in 5", a series of commentaries and interviews with occasional musical fragments (including "Stella by Starlight"!) (5:16), the last 8:10 of "Right Off", and a concluding announcement (0:08).

Lonnie Smith, Khalil Balakrishna, and Badal Roy left in May, and Davis took over the keyboard duties himself. The new Davis Septet embarked on a tour of Japan in June, and Europe in July. The itinerary for the Japanese tour was as follows:
