This set was recorded at Berliner Jazztage 1973. This is the first of two shows (7:00 and 11:00 pm) performed at the Philharmonie on this date; the second has never circulated. Also on the bill were Karl Berger's Music Universe and the Peter Brötzmann Quartett.

The Davis Septet took part in the "Newport Jazz Festival in Europe" tour produced by George Wein. The itinerary was as follows:

November 12: Palau de la Musica, Barcelona

November 15: Palais des Sports, Paris
November 17: De Doelen, Rotterdam
November 18: Unknown venue, Glasgow
November 19: Rainbow Theatre, London (two concerts)
